Generally, when people talk about a basement remodel they really mean a basement finish. This differs a lot from a remodel in that we are adding new living space to the house that was not there before.
The process is much different. There mostly is no “demo” (demolition) phase to the project. Just the building phase. Framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall and like that.
So how much does it cost to finish a basement? How’s this; $12-$40 a square foot. Well you asked.
The actual answer is, what is your budget, how much do you want to spend on this new living space? Are you going to do it yourself or hire it done?
You can finish part or all of your basement very reasonably. If you just want to put up some walls and a ceiling, and do some, or all of it yourself you are probably looking at about $10-$12 a square foot. That’s pretty affordable.
If you are going to hire it done you are probably looking at $25-$35 a square foot.
Even with the basic basement finish you can’t forget about installing electrical outlets along the walls and some HVAC work. That’s a requirement, and eventually you are going to want to sell your house and then it will be a problem if you did not do it “to code” as they say.
The third option is to do some of the work yourself and hire the rest of it. Many company’s do not like working this way but there are those that do, Handyman Hub is one that will work with you on your project to help you save some money.
